Knight News Challenge focuses on networks
The Knight News Challenge seeks ideas for using existing networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, to better inform and engage communities.
Individuals, institutions or companies may submit ideas that use "existing platforms and tools on the Internet to make new modules or apps that benefit storytelling, investigative reporting, journalism and media innovation," said Michael Maness, Knight's Vice President of Journalism and Media Innovation in this not-to-miss video. Knight Foundation will fund the top ideas.
Knight revamped its annual contest to make it "closer to Internet speed." Instead of one annual competition, there will be three shorter contests in 2012, each with a specific focus. Knight will launch the second contest in the spring and the third later this year.
Applications open February 27 and close March 17. Winners will be announced in June.
