BIRN and SCOOP are inviting you to Budapest

Would you like to meet a colleague, that...
- has been working undercover in a Belo-Russian orphanage
- has tried to track a terrorist
- was forced to leave her country because of an investigation?
- exposed university teachers issuing fake diplomas
- did cross-border investigations in a team, where participants needed interpreter to speak with each other?

From the 9 to 11 of November 2007, in the Hungarian capital, you will have an opportunity to share experience, get inspiration from successful investigative reporters and get training in basic and advanced computer-assisted research and reporting.

Scoop – a network to support investigative reporters in East- and Southeast Europe – and BIRN – Balkan Investigative Reporters Network – are inviting journalists from all over Europe to a regional conference and seminar about investigative reporting.

The conference is an initiative to improve both the standards of investigative reporting in the region and foster international networking. Journalists from the region will present their investigations, share publication experiences and working methods. Both Scoop and BIRN have been working in this field of reporting for years and will invite similar organisations, so that the conference will also be a marketplace for contacts.

In addition to the discussions and presentations at the conference, experienced trainers from the USA and Europe will share their techniques in computer-assisted reporting, investigative methods, managing sources, interviewing, archiving and much more.

Scoop is managed by the Danish Association for Investigative Reporting and International Media Support, whereas BIRN is an independent regional network in South East Europe. The event is organised in cooperation with the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) in Hungary.

The Open Society Institute, the Danish Hermod Lannung Foundation and the Danish Politiken Foundation sponsor the conference and seminar.

There is no participation fee, but participants will have to cover their travel and accommodation expenses. We have rooms available for the special fare of €45 a night. Sign up now, as there are only a limited number of places available.

The conference languages are English and Russian with simultaneous translation.

For further information contact Henrik Kaufholz (Scoop) and Dragana Zarkovic-Obradovic (BIRN) .

For organizational matters, please write Ilona Moricz (CIJ)
