Online climate change reporting course available to journalists


Journalists in any medium from across the globe, who are seeking to improve their climate change reporting skills, can enroll in a free online course entitled "Covering Climate Change," being offered by NewsU.

The student will take the course at their own speed and there is no deadline for registration.

The course is geared toward the reporter with very little experience covering environmental issues. It aims to give the student a strong foundation in the science and policy of climate change.

Aljazeera English calls on citizens worldwide to send multimedia stories


Aljazeera English recently launched “Your Media,” a citizen journalism Web site where people from around the world can share news and opinions with the network.

“We want to hear about the reaction to global news events where you are and about the stories you would like us to feature,” according to a statement on the network's Web site.

Published investigative stories sought from journalists worldwide


The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) is seeking outstanding investigative reporting for a new weekly round-up feature called "Investigations Around the World," designed to aggregate and highlight the best investigative reporting across the globe.

ICIJ is interested in stories that have been published in any language and in any medium. Work will be showcased to a global audience through ICIJ's Web site and Facebook page. Over time, ICIJ hopes to build the feature into a valuable resource for reporters seeking ideas, collaborators, and new readers across borders.

A database of media trainers from around the world is seeking journalists who have experience training in the areas of diversity, human rights, conflict and media relations.

Interested trainers should submit a brief profile, including fields of expertise, regions/countries worked in, media format experience and languages spoken.

The Second Annual Middleberg Communications/Society for New Communications Research (SNCR) Global Survey of Media in the Wired World intends to examine the effects of new media and communications developments on journalists and journalism.

UN launches Web site to promote tolerance and religious education


The United Nations Alliance for Civilizations has launched an online network that provides users with educational materials and resources on tolerance and civic education.

The Web site, called the Clearinghouse on Education about Religions and Beliefs (ERB), features news, guidelines, learning and teaching materials, links to organizations, and lists of events relevant to learning about diverse religions and beliefs.

YouTube launches how-to video site for journalists


YouTube has launched a 'Reporters' Center' channel featuring how-to videos for journalists created by some of the industry's most respected journalists and media experts.

The Reporters' Center is called a "one-stop-shop" for journalism training online and covers a wide range of topics, from preparing for interviews, to fact-checking, to journalistic ethics.

Journalists looking to better their writing skills can take advantage of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) journalism resource Web site online. The UIL is a non-profit leadership and guidance organization created by the University of Texas at Austin that supervises contests that assist students.

Multimedia lab for journalists opens in Prague


A multimedia news lab in the Czech Republic called FUTUROOM is being called "the newsroom of the future" and looks to educate and train people to be journalists with a local focus.

In addition to appealing to editors, reporters, photojournalists, DTP specialists, marketing and advertising specialists and other media professionals, FUTUROOM features a special program for children and teenagers called Junioroom.

Media law assistance website now available for journalists


The U.S.-based Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) has recently launched a Media Law Assistance Website to provide journalists around the world with legal assistance, information and resources.

 The globally accessible site contains information and resources on media law and serves as a source of both information and analysis through seminal texts, legislation, and court decisions on media law.
